Year 2
Continue your studies at LOBC
The second year at Bible school is an advanced course in collaboration with Umeå Folkhögskola. This course is designed for those who have already completed the first year at LOBC and feel a desire to deepen their knowledge while taking new steps into practical leadership within the church or mission.
The school day during the second year is structured similarly to the first year, with prayer and worship in the morning, followed by three lessons and the opportunity to join the Prayer School. However, the content of the lessons has a slightly different focus. In addition to diving deeper into the Bible, you will receive more practical teaching in areas such as leadership, diakonia, and mission.
Depending on your passion, there are two different tracks you can choose from during Year 2: Mission or Church. The track you choose will determine the type of practical experience and mentor you have during the year, as well as the focus of the mission trip.
Internship
Practical experience
The practical experience mentioned above means that all second-year students will have an area within the church or mission where, one afternoon a week, you will assist with various tasks to develop in church building. This allows you to gain insight and experience in an area you’re interested in, such as children’s ministry, diakonia, or refugee work.
Mission Trip
Spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth
Mission is central during the second year, most notably through the three-week mission trip that takes place in November. Here, you will travel with a team to a country, either in Europe or another continent. The available countries vary each year, but previous destinations have included Mexico, Uganda, Mongolia, and India. In the spring, you will also have the opportunity to choose mission practice with additional mission trips or church practice in Scandinavian congregations.
Mentor
Learn from those who went before You
You will also be assigned a mentor, whom you will meet regularly with, along with a small mentor group of 3-5 people. This time is meant to build community and provide space for asking questions. The mentors are ministry gifts who have worked for many years in a specific area related to church or mission, and they offer a wealth of wisdom to draw from.
Impact for the rest of your life
The second year at LOBC is an intensive course where much happens, but year after year, we see that those who graduate from the second year not only leave with a full toolbox, but also with deep growth in their relationship with God and with each other. Here, you and your classmates will take steps of faith and experience God’s faithfulness—an experience that leaves lasting impact for the rest of your life.
